Section 08230 - Bifold Closet Doors
1. GENERAL
1.01 Work Included
- Base Bid:
- Contractor Provided: Particleboard bifold interior doors, primed, factory premachined, complete
with hardware at locations indicated on the drawings and schedules.
- Bifold doors shall be warranteed for five (5) years by the manufacturer.

1.03 SUBMITTALS
- Shop Drawings: Showing application of doors to project, complete with installation instructions.
- Product Data: Door manufacturer’s technical data, including details of construction and hardware specifications.
2. PRODUCTS
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
- Manufacturer: Any recognized manufacturer of bifold particleboard doors complying with the
requirements, including the following:
- Landquist and Son, Inc., 6428 North Ridgeway, Lincolnwood, IL 60712
- Or approved equal
2.02 MATERIALS/FABRICATION
- General: Doors shall be sizes and types scheduled on the drawings.
- Particleboard Bifold Doors: Comply with the following requirements:
- Bifold units to be fabricated of 45 lb. density industrial grade particleboard, 3/4” thick
- Provide primed units with paint grade melamine panels 2 sides.
- All edges of the panels shall be plasticized. Panels are hinged together with continuous piano
hinges inserted into routed grooves and secured with tempered pins.
- Hardware is to be factory applied to doors and track wherever practical.
- Door brackets to have wrap around feature to eliminate all unnecessary stress on the screws.
- Pivot and mounting hardware to be made of 14 gauge cold rolled steel. Certain parts, where
required, shall be carbonized for additional strength and durability.
- Track to be 13/16” X 1-1/4” No. 6063T6 extruded aluminum.
- Track guides to be Delrin.
- Top pivot and guide pins to be 3” removable compensating pins.
- Pulls to be manufacturer’s standard.
3. EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
- A. Examine prepared openings prior to hanging doors to verify that the openings comply with the
indicated requirements for type, size, location, and fold characteristics and have been installed with
plumb jambs and level heads.
- Reject any doors with defects.
- Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.02 INSTALLATION
- Condition doors to average prevailing humidity in installation area prior to hanging.
- Install doors in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and as indicated.
3.03 ADJUSTING AND PROTECTION
- Operation: Rehang or replace doors which do not slide or operate freely.
- Finished doors: Refinish or replace doors damaged during installation.
- Protect doors as recommended by door manufacturer to ensure that doors will be without damage or
deterioration at time of substantial completion.
